26 January 2013

Solo ride

It was clear and sunny, warm in the sun and cool in the shade. I headed up Hwy 9 to Felton, then up Felton-Empire. Some of the road was still damp in the shade, and my rear wheel slipped a few times on some of the steeper parts. At the bridge where the mountain switches from the left to the right, a pickup passed me, then slammed on the accelerator, causing it to fishtail a little. At the top, I turned left and headed down Empire Grade.

19 January 2013

Solo ride

After a couple weeks of very cold weather, it was relatively warm. I headed up Hwy 1, then up Bonny Doon and Pine Flat. It hadn't rained in the last week, but there was still some damp spots in the shade on Bonny Doon. At Empire Grade, I turned right and headed back.

Solo ride

It was cold with low clouds so that it was almost foggy. The roads were wet. I headed up Hwy 9 and there was the smell of wood smoke at many places. I took Glen Arbor to Ben Lomond and continued up Hwy 9 to Boulder Creek. I took Hwy 236 and started up Jamison Creek at 12:23. The combination of wetness, steepness, and debris on the road caused my rear wheel to slip a number of times. I got to the top at 12:49 for a time of approximately 25:29. After the tough climb, the wind on Empire Grade was quite cold. It was still cold and overcast when I got back, but the roads were a little less wet.
